Under the title “Sunshiny Husbands” the Signs of the Times of October 1890 (it was then known as the Bible Echo and Signs of the Times), was the following advice:
“A cheerful atmosphere is important to home life. . . . Let a wife and mother love her home and her children with the most absolute, unswerving devotion and serve them with the most unselfish fidelity. . . . A sunshiny husband makes a merry, beautiful home, worth having, worth working in and for. If the man is breezy, cheery, considerate, and sympathetic, his wife sings in her heart over her puddings and her mending basket. . . . “
Times (and the Signs of the Times) may have changed, as has way we express our ideals, but Signs continues to support positive relationships, as the feature “Staying Happy after the Wedding” outlines.
