Leigh Hatcher Tells of a Fall With Grace
. . . with bonus book extract.
Sydney TV news personality Leigh Hatcher shares his experience with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), which derailed his media career and tested his Christian faith. As an exclusive feature on the Signs web site, we are offering a preview chapter of Mr Hatcher's new book, "I'm not crazy, just a little unwell."
Building a Circle of Courage
The experiences for young people living in rural communities are quite different to those of urban young people. While acknowledging the broad diversity of rural communities and young people within these communities, many issues remain common. These issues are compounded by the economic, environmental, educational and health disadvantages, and the lack of services, employment and training opportunities.
Cycling to Build a Circle of Courage
The six cyclists from the Circle of Courage Cycle Tour embarked on their ride across Australia from Murray Street Mall in Perth to address issues of at-risk behaviour among young people in small, rural communities.
Giving Your All - Put your generosity in perspective
Australians, and indeed many nations, broke records with their unprecedented generosity toward charities in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster of Boxing Day 2004. But before we exhaust ourselves with backslapping, let’s check Australians’ past record in giving and their motivation for during so.
Why I Love an Angry God
Oh, yes, I love my angry God—because it is His love for me that makes Him angry at sin. Give me none of your mechanical, unfeeling gods, almighty automatons absent of passion. Don’t offer me your toothless God whose tepid smile betrays a lukewarm love. Forget the bloodthirsty, human-cartoon gods of the ancients. Give me a God of infinite love, stirred to infinite anger by evil—a God fully, truly emotional.
My Many Mothers
We all have a mother. Some of our mothers are living, others have passed away. It is little wonder that the world over, we celebrate Mother’s Day. Its origins seem as diverse as the country you were born in, but one thing remains constant, the flowers! Carnations, to be exact, from China, to Canada, the UK and Australia, are the symbol of Mother’s Day. But where did the idea of the carnation being the symbol of Mother’s Day arise?
Is God Fair?
There are books in which our deeds and even thoughts are registered. Even records of professed Christians are being examined. Will your misdeeds come back to haunt you?
Pathway to Wholeness
Victims of sexual abuse are under no illusion about the devastating long-term effects of this outrage. But recovery is possible. "It’s my intention to one day be whole, living my life with passion—a passion that flows from deep within. My goal is to face life without fear, to make decisions and choices—choices that are healthy for both me and others—from a base of love and compassion. . ."
Crossing the Jordan . . .
Until five years ago, I shrieked when I saw a spider and felt insecure at altitudes above two metres. Fear: it hadn’t occurred to me that fear could be something far blacker and creepier, threatening to smother me. My fear became reality when, in 1999, my doctor told me, “You have cancer.”
Small Loans
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency’s (ADRA) Small Enterprise Development (SED) program in Papua New Guinea provides a way for women to help not only themselves, but their families.
A Teenager Called to Be a Prophet
How would you like the job of being a prophet? Some might jump at it—to receive messages straight from God would be fantastic. However, history reveals that prophets aren’t able to do things quite like that. Often, when people disagreed with them, the prophet—the messenger—was the one mistreated.
A PC Problem
I spend a lot of time with computers. I work, rest and play with at least one hand on some form of electronic gadget. So when my once state-of-the-art PC began to take on the personality of a dinosaur, I believed I had enough experience to know what to replace it with.
