Scott Draper: On and Off the Court—and Course

Scott Draper is recognised as one of Australia’s top tennis players. He’s represented Australia in Davis Cup tennis and been ranked in the top 100 tennis players in the world. But he’s also a professional golfer. Surprised?

When Trouble Comes

The Asian tsunami, Cyclone Katrina, London bombings, Bali (again) and the Pakistan earthquake are a lot of disasters and death to pack into 12 months. One might be tempted to ask: Has God deserted our world? Even believers struggle with an adequate answer to this question, especially when disaster or tragedy strikes them personally. And if He has our best interest at heart, why, then, does He allow such events to occur?

120 years of Signs of the Times!

Signs of the Times celebrates 120 years of continuous publication this month. Since 1886, things have changed (at least on paper).

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Daughters, our mothers influence us in a variety of ways. But have you ever considered it in respect to diet? Three mums and their daughters* shared their feelings about diet, food and body image with health and nutrition.

Neighbours to the World

For 27 years, George and Joan Eiszele, members of the Glenorchy Seventh-day Adventist church in Tasmania, have assisted refugees settle and begin a new life in Australia. Although they’re both now retired, they were still working full time when they began. Since 1978, they’ve resettled people from almost every strife-affected country of the world.

Prague: Jewel of Europe

The city of Prague in today’s Czech Republic is high on the must-visit list of many tourists. Its picturesque environment attracts young and old alike, having escaped the destruction that flattened much of Europe in the past century.

The View From Above

As a spectator, I have some serious problems with the way God sometimes does things. I stand on the sidelines of history and I see things that cause me to scratch my head. I see events in the lives of others—even in my own—and I’m left contemplating an incessant and lingering “why?”

The World’s Greatest Story

Jesus said He came to this earth specifically to seek and to save the “lost” (Luke 19:9, 10). This is His primary statement outlining His mission on earth, and the implications of this are enormous. Jesus is suggesting that all people are “lost” until they respond to His “seeking” and are “saved.” The one purpose of His life was to hunt for those who were “lost,” because He was the only one who could “save” them.

Tsunami One Year On

It is just one year since tsunamis devastated coastlines. And it’s been a year since the world came together to support the relief effort. With the help of aid agencies such as the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), communities are rebuilding.

Enforcing God’s Law?

The issue of the posting of the Ten Commandments in United States government schools and institutions, although not a universal battle, is, according to the Bible from which they are drawn, one that has worldwide implications. It would be ironic if in seeking to promote higher ethics and morality, religious oppression and persecution were the result. But this is what Revelation chapter 13 predicts will be the result of a government infiltrated by religion.

The Old and the New

The old year has now gone;
It lies spread out behind us like some old page,
Dog-eared and smudged by inky blots.
And now it’s past, it’s added one year to our age.
What has this year taught us?

Joys of Moving

I hate moving house. But this fact doesn’t make me special, different or even interesting. In fact, if you consider that moving house is ranked in the top 10 of the most stressful things that can happen in life, my dislike for it makes me a reasonably average person.
