Motivation to Move
When you first make the decision to start an exercise routine, you generally don’t have to worry about motivation, because it comes naturally. You are raring to go and want to be active. But when your initial enthusiasm dies down, it’s important to have some strategies to help keep you moving and motivated.
Dealing with Debt—God’s Way
With interest rates rising, debt at record levels and the costs of everyday living also going up, many families are feeling financial pressure.
Living Biblically
Is it even possible to take literally and live out the instructions of an ancient book—parts of which were written more than 3000 years ago— amid living some kind of normal urban life in the world today?
The Practice of Prayer
Christian prayer is not a difficult task that requires special rituals or years of study. Christians rejoice in the knowledge that simply through faith in Jesus, they can become part of the family of God.

Barack Obama: Who am I?
Barack built for himself, based on the stories told to him by his mother and grandparents, a fantastic picture of his father’s world. But his pride took a dive the day he researched his African heritage and discovered the Luo people in Africa—from whence his father had emerged—were cattle minders who lived in mud huts, wore loincloths and ate corn meal, yams and millet. In his mind, he had hoped for more.
Planet Earth in Peril
Once limited to science fiction, now scientific magazines and the internet run frequent articles that warn of the danger of rocky asteroids falling from the sky. Large impacts could cause serious damage and loss of life on the ground. It may be a long time before one strikes or we could be surprised at any time. We do well to learn all we can about asteroids.
The God Father
In listening to people talk about God the Father, it seems that there is a popularly held view that God the Father is much like the character of the godfather, in the way He behaves toward humanity—vengeful, arrogant, discriminatory and untrustworthy. But Matthew presents us with a picture of God the Father, found in the Sermon on the Mount, which is in complete contrast to the godfather.
I Thought I Heard Angels Sing
In 1960, while on a long-range communication training exercise held in the far north of Western Australia, I nearly lost my life—and in saving it, almost faced a court martial. The area we were operating in was void of any roads and most of the time, we relied on aerial photographs taken by the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II. It was tough on both our four-wheel-drive vehicles and on us.
Jesus: God’s Apostle!
The apostles were disciples before they were apostles. A disciple is a learner; that is essentially what the word means. As pupils in the school of Jesus the rabbi (teacher), the disciples learned the principles of God’s kingdom. He then made them apostles and sent them forth to preach.
Walking in the Light
With all 14 faces in the room staring at me, I asked the question I was wanting to ask. When I did, silence fell. When it broke, I understood why they used to be so scared.
Bunnies, Pirates and a Child’s Prayer
My five-year-old son, Reef, gets a lot of prayers answered. It’s not to the point where the neighbours are bringing by the sick and infirm but he’s had a pretty good run lately.
