Matt Corby—Building Something Real

It seems a dream come true—the hype, the attention, the success and the opportunities that follow. But for Matt Corby, runner-up in the 2007 season of Australian Idol, the aftermath of his experience has seen him trying to step back, reassess and perhaps, start over.

Breast Cancer: How to Lower Your Risk

Chances are you’ve heard the frightening statistic of “1 in 7”—that one in seven women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Some risk factors, like family history, can’t be changed but others can. At different stages in life, there are different things we can do to reduce the risks.

Double Click

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. There is a collection of pictures on your computer that represents your programs. They are tiny pictures, so maybe they are only worth a hundred words but they certainly save a lot of time!

Answers for Everything

There comes a time in every person’s life when the tough questions must be answered. My time came when I was 6 years old. With firm resolve and unwavering determination, I trekked down to the garage where Dad was working on his car and presented the challenge. It was time I got some answers—and they had better be good.

Prophecy Speaks—Foretelling the Future

One of the main reasons for believing the words of the Bible are more than mere human words is prophecy—and fulfilled prophecy, in particular. Much of the Bible was written by prophets—Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and others—who declared God’s message to the people of their day.

10 Ways to be Your Child’s Role Model

A positive role model has long-term influence and can empower a person to overcome a multitude of deficiencies. All parents have the grand opportunity and privilege to provide their children with positive examples of how to live in socially beneficial ways. It is the parent—not an athlete, actor, politician or other celebrity—who holds most potential influence over a child’s life.

The Millennium: A Rite of Passage

The European scholar Arnold Van Gennep, in the 1960s, was the first to coin the phrase “rite of passage” in reference to the ritualised practices and ceremonies people groups developed in order to validate the leaving of one life stage and the moving into another.

Eighty Years—and Still Going Softly

He turns to the musicians, welcoming each one with his eyes. He gives some of them an encouraging glance, as if to say “You’ll see, everything will go well tonight.” Then, a moment of meditation: Herbert Blomstedt stands as if in silent prayer.

Constance: John Huss’s Lakeside City

Constance is a traveller’s delight. Spelt Konstanz in German, it is located on Lake Constance or Bodensee. The Rhine River flows from here to the North Sea. The lake attracts many holiday-makers and besides some beaches, there are many lake and river cruises.

A Miracle for Braden

God does work miracles, doesn’t He?” Braden was anxious. “Yes,” Mum said. “God works miracles and He also keeps His promises. Stick around and you’ll see a miracle.” “But how do you know that He won’t say ‘No’ or ‘Wait a while?’”

Another Shot at Saying “Sorry”

Have you ever said something that came out differently than planned? I am an expert in this department—especially in my personal relationships. For some reason, when I stand up to preach a sermon (my vocation) I can present my thoughts with clarity. But when I am in a personal conversation, I often utter things that leave me befuddled and my conversation partner dismayed.
